 Clarke Earns A-Sun Honors

MACON? Georgia - March 7? 2006 - The Atlantic Sun Conference announced that Kennesaw State senior Shavonder Clarke was selected as a Second Team All−Conference selection in an announcement made the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Clarke? who was a two−time A−Sun Player of the Week this year? led the league in rebounding at 11.2 and was the fourth highest scorer in the league at 18.5 points per game. In addition to being a scoring threat? the Euxema? Bahamas native also finished third in the league in steals.

"It's an honor for Shavonder to be recognized as the first KSU player to receive a conference post season honor and we're proud?" said head coach Colby Tilley. "Hopefully she will be the first in a long line of award winners."

Clarke? who won the Player of the Week award in consecutive weeks on December 5 and December 12? earned the later award after a 31−point? 23−rebound night against Jacksonville State. Her rebound total was the third highest total in the NCAA this season.

"Shavonder had the potential to take over any game?" added Tilley. "She had a good career at Kennesaw State and could do well in the future."

At one point during the season? Clarke led the NCAA in scoring and was in the top ten in rebounding? however struggles in the second half of the year dimmed her numbers. If she was eligible for
NCAA post season recognition she would have ranked tenth in the nation in rebounding this season and 34th in scoring.

The two-year starter finished her Kennesaw State career with over 1000 points and led the team in nearly every offensive category during the past two years.

-Assigned to guard the best offensive player every game, consistently held players below their season average.  She did all of this while playing out of position (center).

"Kia Manuel play for our organization in Portugal, division 1 and I can recommend her to any team looking for a all-around-player able to pop out and drive over bigger players or posting up over her size players. She can be a mismatcher if used properly. She is primarily a 3 player able to play as a stepping up power forward. On the other end of the court she is a stopper, she is very committed in defense and able to play inside defense by fronting the post. Our organization has only positive things to tell about her work ethic - be on time, attendance, give her best effort". - Joao Oliveira, CDP General Manager
